This FundMeGram page has been established for Sanjeeb Drong, a Garo indigenous rights activist from Bangladesh, by his friends from the Netherlands and Germany. Sanjeeb started his career as a journalist in the 1990s publishing a weekly column that documented the experiences of indigenous people (referred to as adivasi in the vernacular) in Bangladesh. Following the creation of the Bangladesh Adivasi Forum, Sanjeeb took on the role of General Secretary for the organization. Throughout the early 2000s, Sanjeeb emerged as one of the most vocal advocates for indigenous rights in Bangladesh. He has not only played a significant political role but has also remained accessible to the community helping countless indigenous individuals in legal, financial or educational matters. In September 2024, Sanjeeb Drong was diagnosed with periampullary carcinoma, a form of cancer that affects the gallbladder and pancreas. The only viable treatment for this cancer is surgery. Sanjeeb underwent surgery at Saint Louis Hospital in Bangkok in November 2024. Unfortunately, due to post-operative complications and several severe infections, Sanjeeb has remained hospitalized since then. Although he is recovering slowly, he has to stay in the hospital . As a result, the expenses for his medical care are mounting, and this is why we are seeking your help. We appreciate any contributions, and believe that with the support of many individuals, we can quickly reach our fundraising target. To settle Sanjeeb’s medical bills, the funds raised will be transferred to the hospital’s account by his friends from Germany.
